My wife was a scholarship gymnast in college but I’ve been a gymnastics fan since I was a kid. Every year we go to several major gymnastics events as fans and lately I’ve been able to get photographer access to some of the local college events. This picture was taken at the 2004 USA Olympic Gymnastics Trials at the Anaheim Pond, and the gymnast is Sean Townsend. I really liked the composition of this shot more than anything. There is a triangle effect with Sean facing away on the left, his frontal view on the big screen above and the cameraman taking the image on the bigscreen to the right creating almost a mirrored reflection while he mentally prepares for the parallel bars.
